ROE #17 has received a federal grant to develop a reading instruction workshop for K-3 classroom teachers and K-12 special education teachers. This 7 day workshop will focus on essentials of reading instruction (phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) and how teachers can incorporate this instruction in their classrooms. Topics will include:
· Structuring the Literacy Block · Components of Quality Literacy Instruction · Assessment, Diagnostics, and Progress Monitoring · Guided Reading · Critical analysis of Reading Practices · Differentiation · Integrating “New Literacies” into Reading Instruction
Participants will hear from local teachers who have successfully implemented many of these practices in their classrooms. There will also be the opportunity to explore classroom materials, discuss recent issues in reading instruction and to plan how you might incorporate new ideas into your literacy program.
